The glow effect works best when there is no direct light on it (e.g. from a lamp). You will need to expose this item to bright light first before turning off the lights so that it can charge up its luminous properties (this process only takes about 30 seconds). When they turn off the lights, they would need to hold it up against something white or light coloured so that they can see it glowing brightly!
